Environmental Footprint

Thredbo is the Australian partner of Protect Our Winters (POW), a group of snow enthusiasts, professional athletes and industry partners marshalling the outdoor sports community to lead the way in taking positive climate action. As a partner, Thredbo works to raise awareness of the impact of climate change on the mountain environment and to continuously improve the resort’s environmental performance.

To this end, Thredbo is also a partner with Greenfleet, which helps offset resort operation emissions, and is working with EarthCheck to benchmark, measure and improve overall environmental performance.

Kasees’s owners, Ann and Cees Koeman and daughter Annalisa, are trying to do their bit, as part of the Thredbo community and long term residents of this special place, to reduce the Lodge’s environmental footprint. We invite all our guests to work with us to reduce our collective impact on the unique and sensitive mountain environment and the climate. We provide information in each apartment compendium and kitchen on recycling, food waste collection and energy use.

For example, we kindly ask that you turn off all lights, electrical appliances and unused power-points when you exit your apartment for the day; re-use your towels; separate recycling and food waste (Thredbo has a food waste composting system); and leave unused food in the fridge on departure rather than disposing of it.

A heartfelt request: As you pack for your stay at Kasees, please avoid purchasing bulk bottled water to bring with you; Thredbo tap water is some of the best tasting water in Australia and is treated. The amount of plastic waste we deal with in the village is astronomical. Bring a reusable drink bottle or backpack with water bladder for your mountain activities.
